 Writing Good English

Writing Good EnglishTo be able to write good English is essential for a lot of reasons. If we cannot fully deliver in words whatever we wish to say, we write it down. If we cannot voice out our feelings in the simplest way, we write it down just the same. And whether you believe it or not, words and feelings are best expressed when written. It’s because when we write we have more time and space to think thoroughly, than when we speak. The only odd circumstance of speaking is that sometimes it does not permit us to withdraw what we have said. As far as the organization of thoughts or ideas is concerned, writing is better than speaking. And since it is so, you might as well write the best way you can to be understood completely. I have researched some important concepts when writing, they should guide you better.

  • Clear organization. This concerns the idea/information you are trying to communicate. Write in a continuous flow that your readers can follow. Your introduction should provide the general/main idea. Your body will form the detailed development. And your conclusion should give the neutral assessment, if not your personal evaluation or critical thinking on the subject of matter.
  • Correct Grammar. Writing and Speaking are relatively the same. Picture someone speaking confidently in front of a crowd yet verbalizing the wrong pronunciations, some audience are quick to pick that up and may find the player a laughing stock. This is just the same with writing. You may have great ideas to share, but if you can’t speak the correct words on paper, some readers may judge you down easily, and conclude that you can’t be that good as far as the grammatical errors of your story show.
  • Use simple words. Some people think that using complex words may give the ‘impression’. On top of conveying the relevant issue of what they have to say, they also want to display how far they’ve gone across the knowledge sphere. The majority of people in this planet have average minds. We all think normal, on the positive side. Even bright ones are only slightly disparate. So write in order to be understood. Your readers make the call anyway. If their opinions turn you down, it doesn’t hurt not knowing you are ignored, otherwise they’ll tell you so and you take it as constructive criticism. Learn from it.

There are actually countless tips on writing good English. I have shared here the basic concepts not centered on correct grammar and vocabulary, but writing good English to communicate. English is more than just a language to study and learn, it is a medium to connect.

Welcome to English-Grammar.info! People don't normally think about grammar, but it's one of the most basic-and most important skills-we can develop. It doesn't matter if we're a little girl just starting to master the ABC's, or a post graduate student proofreading a thesis. We'll never outgrow the need to mind our p's and q's, and in fact, the older we get, the more we're expected to know.
