Plural nouns – In a sentence which carries a plural noun as the subject should have been followed with the plural form in the predicate. Remember, the subject policemen, is in plural form therefore the predicate should be followed with the singular form of the verb.

Singular noun – In a sentence whose subject is singular should be followed with the singular form of the verb. For example: Mary writes a letter. Mary is singular and should follow the singular form of the verb in an active voice
